Love and Laughter Unleashed.

A play by A. R. Gurney

Has your pet changed your life? Have you ever wondered what she’s thinking when she stares up at you and tilts her head? Could she have the secret to understanding the world at large and your place in it? Or is she just more interested in how your shoe tastes? In Sylvia, the world of a middle-aged New York couple is turned topsy-turvy when the husband brings home an exceptionally engaging canine running loose in Central Park.

“I can only call it one of the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I have ever seen…” —New York Daily News.

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career is winding down, while Kate’s careeer is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife, and hilarity ensues as they navigate the weight of a pet on their marriage.
